Parents: Kindred’s 2023 Best Cities for Black Families Awards

These are Kindred’s top picks for places where Black families can find community, celebrate culture, and build generational legacies.

By Leslie D. Rose Updated on June 23, 2023

So many families in the United States move from city to city or state to state in search of opportunities that will benefit their families generationally. But for Black families, more so than others, abundance is a careful calculation—because this kind of mobility is a privilege and, too often, being Black is a caveat to the factors that make American cities worthwhile.

Kindred by Parents’ first-ever Best Cities for Black Families Awards is a careful assessment of locations that are not only safe but joyful, communities where we don’t just find connection and celebrate culture but build lasting legacies of wealth and education.

Hopefully, because of a deep understanding of Black communities and a commitment to getting it right, this guide will be a resource for Black families this year and in years to come.
