My Approach to Nutrition

I spoke to O Magazine about my approach to nutrition:

My approach to nutrition is about meeting people where they are, through a culturally sensitive lens. In a perfect world, everyone would eat minimally processed vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. But first, people have to be able to get their hands on that food and have the time to prepare it. I aim to help clients find space to make modifications, even if its just increasing their fruit or veggie intake by one serving per day. If that means canned green beans, I’ll take it. Ideally, they’d get the kind with no added salt, but if that’s not possible, maybe they can rinse the beans before serving to reduce the sodium content. I don’t suggest that everyone should primarily eat from cans, but if that’s all people have time for and access to, they’ll eat canned beans or they won’t eat beans at all. I want us to remove the stigma and think about how we can encourage one another instead.
