Food is the remedy for what ails us.
Nutrition and healthful balanced eating are the keys to longevity.
From an early age, Maya Feller has been exposed to many different types of food. She has childhood memories of traveling with her family through the Caribbean and enjoying fresh and local food and she remembers being open to trying most any food placed in front of her. Maya has always had a love of food.
As an adult, Maya’s love of food took her to a new direction. In 2005 after running the Boston marathon, Maya started really thinking about the science of nutrition. She decided to become a nutrition expert, someone who would and could dissect the science of nutrition and translate it into daily practice for people looking to make health and nutrition related changes.
As a New York-based registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), Maya has dedicated herself and her professional practice to ensuring that her family, her community and her clients have access to evidence-based nutrition information and are able to take advantage of high-quality local and organic foods.
Prior to opening her own practice, Maya worked as a Food and Nutrition Program Manager in an outpatient setting where she oversaw the nutrition program and counseled patients. When she became responsible for the daily soup kitchen and weekly food pantry, she partnered with neighborhood Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) and food co-ops to bring local and organic food to her clients.
Currently, Maya sees clients both in group settings and privately. Her areas of expertise include women’s health, family nutrition and medical nutrition therapy. When working with clients, Maya believes in “meeting the whole person where they are” and using a patient-centered, culturally sensitive approach to enable each client to meet their unique nutrition related goals.
Maya received her Masters of Science at New York University and completed her clinical nutrition training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in affiliation with NYU. She has taught nutrition at her alma mater and lectured at nutrition symposia in New York City.
When she’s not hard at work, you may spot Maya out for a run or picking up her families share from her CSA. Maya lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, son, daughter and dog.
